Reviews and Photos for Nepal

“I was quite happy with all of the services. The local coordinator was very friendly, my host family is very accommodating, and my work placement provided the experience I asked for. There were no problems. Overall, my experience with Cross-Continental has been rewarding and has offered me on insight into a different culture. The most rewarding is the friends and lessons you learn from volunteering abroad and this really applies to me. Cross-Continental, comparing to other organizations that I have contacted, has decent affordable fees. I cannot express my experience in Nepal as a volunteer and the friends I made. It was a rewarding journey of not just of Nepal, but what it means to be happy and how to live life in a totally different way. Wherever the work placement may be, I believe that the journey will be worth it and above all else memorable.”

“Hello, I am Miranda. I am a volunteer from Holland. I am working here through Cross-Continental. I am here at the children’s Hospital to help with ultrasound in the morning and in the afternoon after the lunch break I will help at the X-ray department to make normal x-rays. It is very busy in the morning and there are around 20-30 patients each morning. In the afternoon in the X-ray department it is a little bit less patients. The colleagues here are very nice to work with. They are helping me a lot and I am having a lot of fun. So, after 2 weeks of working here, I am having a lot of fun and enjoying the kanti hospital.”

“Everything was awesome! Great family, great school, great village. Local coordinator was very helpful and accessible. Working with the kids was amazing. Also, living in the village was a great way to experience the culture. Overall, I would recommend Cross-Continental for the affordability, great cultural experience, the life abroad living like a real Nepali and interacting with great people and culture.”

“I love it here! The host family is wonderful and very welcoming. Saurab has been showing me around and teaching me some basics of the language, we have already become good friends. Monday I start with the orphanage and I can’t wait to meet the children! The festival starts today so they will not have school for 15 days so I will just be engaging in some activities with the children!

I could not be more happy with the home I am living at for this month. :)
Yesterday Saurab took me to the temple Changu Narayan, it was a long hike but so beautiful! I said Namaste to almost everyone I saw during the walk, that was my task :)

Last night I tried to eat with my hand like the Nepali’s do…I was not very good at it..haha! It will just take some practicing!
This morning when I woke up the kids that live at the house (Rit and Rikh) came to visit me and we took lots of silly pictures on my computer..”

“I have almost been here for a full week and I already feel like family here. I am learning more and more about the Nepali culture and I am really going to miss it when I leave. Anish and Saurab are extremely helpful! Anish even set up a trip for me to visit Pokhara and Chitwan the two places I wanted to visit the most, so I am very excited! He took care of everything for me so I am very thankful for that!

Today I went to the orphanage for the third time and I love it. There are 13 boys and the ages range from 2-15. The two oldest boys are very helpful because they speak the best English. The boys are very well mannered and love anything you teach them or any activity you do with them, even if it is just watching a movie. I have learned that my presence there is what is most important. Today I bought them some art supplies and I organized an activity where they had to partner up and draw a portrait of their partner. I participated as well!

I am also working on printing out pictures I took of each one of them so they can have pictures of themselves at the orphanage. After the pictures are printed they will go on a poster and they will write their name and interests under their picture! I am excited to work on that project!

Tomorrow we are going to have a small spelling bee and I am bringing chocolate as a prize.”

“I have been very happy with the local coordinator’s services. My host family has been wonderful and I consider them part of my family now. The orphanage was great too! All of the kids were so respectful and always brightened my day. There really is not anything I can think of that would improve my experience. I loved every bit of it.

I am so happy and grateful that I had this experience! The most rewarding experience for me was with one of the oldest boys, Krisha. Krisha was walking me halfway home (because it was getting dark) and told me that I was a part of their big family now. I almost started to cry! It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. He also kept telling me how lucky he was to have so many brothers.

I chose to go abroad with CrossContinental because of how affordable it was and how fast the email responses were. They also got me in touch with previous volunteers so I could ask as many questions as I wanted with different perspectives. When I got to Nepal, I not only got to experience a totally different culture but anytime I wanted to visit somewhere, the local coordinator would set everything up for me. I just had to tell him the dates! Everything was so relaxed and I was always taken great care of!”

“Overall, my trip to Nepal was incredible. It was certainly an eye-opening experience and I’m glad that I made the journey. With the help of Cross Continental, I was able to make a trip I’ve always wanted to. I’ve always said I’d like to travel with a purpose, and Cross Continental helped me to achieve exactly that. Nepal is beautiful place, rich in culture and natural beauty. The people are friendly, hard-working and humble. I was extremely lucky to meet such an incredible family. The people of Nepal have so little, yet live such a full life. They included me in their family community right away, and I went from having no little siblings to having 17! I spent a lot of time bonding with my new little brothers and sisters. In the mornings, I helped them to get ready for school and finish up their homework. After school, they return home and begin their homework again. They study very hard and truly are grateful for the chance to be provided with an education. I have a newfound appreciation for the opportunity that I have to educate myself further and pursue my career goals. So many people in Nepal are not as fortunate, and yet they are incredibly driven and hard-working. I am extremely appreciative of the organizations that helped me to make this trip. I’ll never forget the people I met in Nepal and look forward to having an ongoing relationship with them.”

“During my stay, my coordinator has been extremely helpful and accommodating to my needs. The home stay family has been very friendly and made me feel right at home. I have been very happy with my intern experience. I have learnt many new things and had a good experience in the hospital, that will give me valued experience for my future in medicine. My Cross-Continental internship provided me with valued experience in healthcare as well as providing me a friendly environment for me to meet new people and learn a totally new culture. It’s been awesome.”

Working with the children at the orphanage was one of the most rewarding experiences. They are all so wonderful and I hope to return to Nepal many times to see them again. The friendships I have made this past month are truly a blessing. Overall, the experience here with the children was inspiring and motivated me to think of more ways to help.

“My time in Nepal goes beyond words, it truly changed my perspective on life and without Cross-Continental Solutions it would not have been possible. Their thoroughness combined with affordability is amazing. Keshab, my program coordinator in Nepal, is one of the nicest men I have ever met. Every time I would see him he would offer me milk tea and ask me “how was your sleep”. I did so much while I was in Nepal, worked in both a local hospital and school, the children there are so amazing. That’s not to say I did not have any personal adventure time. From riding elephants in the 40 degree heat to trekking through the snow in the Himalayas I was able to explore much of this diverse country. Volunteering abroad is something that I would recommend to anyone and Cross- Continental will get you where you want to be.”

“I am very Satisfied with how helpful my local coordinator has been. He answered all questions as well as accommodated us in spending our days at the hospital as well as visiting the orphanage. Our host family was amazing! Everyone was very helpful and played a significant role in our experience here in Nepal. They really taught us a lot about Nepali culture and brought me to loving Nepal.

I am very happy with my experience with CrossContinental. All questions were answered in a timely manner, as well as being very organized. It’s scary going into a new country, but this program really made me feel comfortable. Obviously, volunteering at the hospital was very rewarding but even more were all the relationships we made during our stay here. I hope to stay in touch with all my new friends.

I would recommend CrossContinental to others because it is trustworthy and available to answer any questions. Fees are affordable and they really accommodate your flexibility for your program projects. The host family I was placed in gave me so much exposure to Nepali culture, as well as meeting so many new friends. People here really take you in as one of their own, which makes us feel just as special. Nothing compares to the relationships and experience this program offers. I hope to visit back someday once I’m a doctor.

Yes, it is definitely okay for a future participant to get in touch with me. I had the most amazing experience in Nepal and it was certainly something I’ll never forget and live to tell stories about. I will never forget!”

“All 3 components (including the local support, host family, and work placement) of the program were excellent.

Everything has exceeded my expectations. The whole trip was a reward from learning about Nepal’s people and culture, to making new friends, learning many new things (both in and out of the hospital), trying new foods, and embarking on many new adventures (most out of my comfort zone).

I would recommend CrossContinental to others who specifically aren’t looking for a strict scheduled experience abroad. To me, this was a selling point-being able to manage your own time. For others, it may be a little difficult since you are also trying to adjust to new surroundings. Nepal itself was the perfect country to travel abroad to. It offered all the extremes: natural landscape beauty and pollution, wonderful smelling foods and strange smells, the very rich and extremely poor…Overall, a fantastic site to experience it all.

Yes. I would also be willing to share my online travel journal.”

Feedback from Ambika Sachdeva (from London, UK)

This has truly been an incredible experience. The local coordinator was extremely helpful with helping us organize all our activities and providing us with anything we required. The work too was really good. Being quite passionate about international development, being in an environment where sustainable & innovative methods are used to improve the lives of local communities within Nepal, was great. Our house-helper was also really sweet and a good cook.

CrossContinental provided me with everything I had asked for. The whole trip has been rewarding for me personally, while the work was very fulfilling, being able to travel around Nepal and experience the rich culture was very rewarding for me.

CrossContinental is a great organization which provides students with great and rewarding experiences for a very affordable budget. The local coordinators are very helpful and regularly check up on you. I would truly recommend CrossContinental to anyone looking to travel abroad for volunteering or internship opportunities.

Feedback from Fhaheen Khan (from London, UK)

During the program, I have been very pleased with our local coordinator, as he has always helped us in our time of need and gave excellent travel advice. The host family was wonderful and has taken good care of us by giving us healthy meals. Finally, the work placement was very good but I think we should have been warned about the number of day-offs Nepalese tend to take as I would have like more work time.

Overall, I have been very happy with CrossContinental and the experience I gained from travelling is going to last me a lifetime. This organisation allows students like me who may not have a lot of money a chance to travel and for that I am grateful.

CrossContinental is a truly wonderful organisation dedicated towards giving young people a chance to travel and work at cheap, affordable fees. For the price they take great care of us, provide us with a loving family and an excellent work placement which teaches you valuable skills for the future.

Feedback from Melissa Walsh (from Chicago, USA)

Very happy with the service of our local coordinator. He has been so helpful with everything. We really appreciate all he’s done for us. Everyone at the center has also been great and very welcoming towards us. Overall, we have had an excellent experience.

I’ve been very happy with my experience here. The children are all great and the staff very nice and helpful. The most rewarding part for me was seeing the kids’ faces light up when we came back with gifts for them (new toys, games, coloring books, etc). It was also rewarding for me when we were doing school and I would teach them something new they never done before and how excited we both were when they got it & were able to do it basically on their own. And, just seeing how happy they are to be spending time with us is such a rewarding feeling.

I would definitely recommend this program to others. Volunteering through CrossContinental has been an overall amazing experience. It has been very affordable. You definitely have a ton of flexibility and support throughout the entire program. Our local coordinator has been amazing. They understand you are here to volunteer but also want to explore and be able to see some of the culture so he was great at helping us plan some weekend trips during our time here so we were able to get that experience as well. We are volunteering and staying at Nepal Center for the Disabled in Kathmandu, Nepal. The staff here are also very helpful and supportive of us. And the kids are also great. It has been awesome learning about and getting to experience their culture first hand. This is definitely an experience I will never forget.

Feedback from Patrick Hurst (from Chicago, USA)

The whole experience has been great!! Our coordinator was awesome! He helped us get acquainted with the culture, gave us great tips on where to go and what places to go site seeing at. He also helped us whenever we needed it. The host family at the center was great! They made us feel right at home. There was some struggles but we always found ways to work it out.

The time abroad has been great! One of the most rewarding experience for me was spending time with the children. They really made this whole experience easy to wake up to every morning. Another experience would be when we bought them games and puzzles. Their faces and enjoyment made the whole trip for me. I have learned that I should not take for granted what I have at home.

I would recommend you to others. CrossContinental is a great organization that allows you to travel across the world to different destinations to experience the culture, live a day in another person life and to do work with whatever filed your heart desires. They are very affordable! Especially for people who are on budgets, they work with you so you get what you want out of the experience. The support that they show is also great! From when you first get in contact with them, they respond to emails right away with very detailed explanations. The local coordinator was very helpful and supported us along the whole journey. Overall it has been a great experience I would never trade for anything.

Volunteer Patrick’s Feedback from Home

I wanted to just let you know that Melissa and I made it back to America safe! The whole experience in Nepal and at the center was great! We really enjoyed ourselves! This whole experience has definitely made an impact on both us. It has really opened our mind to all that is out there and how people can go about their lives with so little. It has definitely taught me to not take anything for granted.

We are definitely going to continue to help out the center. We are going to try to send materials such as games and books back to the center. I am also going to try to raise money. I finally am going to try to recruit more volunteers and tell them about Cross Continental and the great work you guys do, Overall this was a great experience!
Thanks again for all you did for us!

Project: Orphanage Work and Garden Construction Project

Feedback from Keenan Beaudette (from USA)

“During my stay here, I have been more than pleased with the accommodations and organisation/planning done through the CrossContinental team. My host family was extremely hospitable. The local coordinator has been great with informing me about local customs and history but most importantly listening to my feedback and creating a custom plan for my stay.

I was able to be involved with two different projects. The first being the orphanage where I was able to meet with the kids and get a feel for operations over there. The second was being involved with ABSS. Here I created a garden and meet the teaching staff as well as the many students. This was very rewarding and memorable. ”

“I learned to value education. In the US, education is a given and it’s easy to take for granted. But here, you know, kids are walking 5 miles just to get to school on their own with no government mandate. That opened my eyes.”

“CrossContinental was able to create a custom plan for my stay based on my feedback. All of the logistics and home-stays were set up. The affordable fees were very worth it as they were able to set up a solid structure for my stay in Nepal. Their connections to organizations needing volunteer work was very important to my stay because I was able to offer my time as well as travel to places. ”

Feedback from Sheila (Keenan’s mother)

“Keenan had a phenomenal experience in Nepal. He was very moved by the children at the orphanage during his first two weeks and he absolutely LOVED his host family that he spent his second 2 weeks with. He had an episode of what was probably food poisoning but he was well cared for there by the staff so he recovered pretty quickly.”

“Thank you again for all of your help in this process Jenn. As a Mom, it was not easy sending my 17yo son 1/2 way around the world on such a big undertaking but having you at the helm made me feel so much better and I can’t thank you enough for that!!! You were always very professional, informative, understanding and very pleasant. I would highly recommend your organization to anyone looking into an experience like this.”
